Editors note

Dear Reader,

Thank you for taking the time to read the sixth issue of Tiger Leaping Review. Over the course of the past few months we have continued to enjoy reading all of the work that we have been sent, and as usual it wasn’t easy to select just twelve authors to publish. We would like to thank everyone who submitted for considering Tiger Leaping Review as a home for their work.

This issue marks the two year anniversary since we first opened submissions for Tiger Leaping Review. When we first came up with the idea to create a literary journal we had no idea where to even begin. Over the course of July and August we learned how to build a website, call for poetry (our only genre at the time) on Instagram, Duotrope, and ChillSubs, and organize the way we reviewed submissions. The most learning we had to do, though, surrounded the way we selected poetry. What, exactly, were we looking for? What styles, stories, and messages fit Tiger Leaping Review best? How did we, as three distinct editors, come to a consensus? Editing the past six issues has taught us what our voice is as a literary journal, and it has been so exciting to incorporate the unique perspectives of our editors into the process. The past two years have shaped who we are and we can’t wait to keep discovering our identity.

The writing in this issue is both vulnerable and powerful, just as raw as it is beautiful. “The celebrations are loud, but the grief is louder,” writes Daniel Romo in his poem “Atmosphere”. His poem reflects on the fine line between life and death in deceptively simple narration. Denise Gilchrist also writes on death, but her poem captures the feeling of continuing after a personal loss. Her poem “Cusp of Summer” reads, “I remember the crack / as his spirit left, then silence, / then rain, then / a low pressure system making / bleak weather inside my head.” The stories shared by the twelve pieces featured in this issue are deeply thought provoking, and we cannot thank our contributors enough for their vulnerability in the work they’ve chosen to share.

Issue 6 marks a milestone for Tiger Leaping Review and we hope all of the writing feels as special for you as it does for us. We are incredibly grateful for all of your support in the past two years and we hope to continue Tiger Leaping Review for many more years to come. Without further ado, we would like to welcome you to Issue 6, and all of the amazing poetry and fiction we have been lucky to publish.

Yours truly,

Kenna Zhang, Claire Wang, and Mira Sridharan
